About Us
The One Love One Heart Foundation was established in memory of Andrew Samuel by his family and friends to keep his spirit alive; raise awareness and funds for Gastric Cancer; and inspire others who are suffering.
On July 6th 2006 Andrew was diagnosed with Stage IV Gastric Adenocarcinoma Metastases to the esophagus, lungs and lymphatic system.
From the day Andrew was diagnosed he approached his disease and treatment in a unique way. He was given four weeks to live; on the 29th day everything changed. Andrew had gotten over the first hurdle; live longer than the experts predicted. Andrew vowed he'd fight cancer tooth and nail and become the exception to the rule. Rather than feel sorry for himself, Andrew chose to continue living his life as if he would if he did not have cancer. He graduated from NYU with honors, got a job, got engaged to the love of his life and continued to challenge people and make them better for it.
Andrew never asked, "why me?" Rather he thought, "why not me?" This happens to millions of people and this time it happened to me. "God chose me." Andrews' unique ability to see his circumstance as no more dire than the next persons problems no matter if they are life threatening or not spawned the motto, "One Love One Heart." That all humans suffer and that suffering makes us all the same.
Andrew began selling bracelets with "One Love One Heart" embossed on them to raise money for gastric cancer research. The bracelet is supposed to remind those who wear it that their difficulties are not the most important just because they are their own. Rather to pledge camaraderie to all men and women, to always consider the trials and tribulations that every person faces even though the struggle may not be visible. The bracelet asks you to care about others suffering.
